Following my passion through watercolors

As an artist I am constantly looking for glimpses of beauty or noticing pleasing designs of shapes, color and texture in my surroundings. When I see it I have a deep feeling of joy that I want to share with others through my artwork. My hope is to draw the viewer into my painting and remind them of the wonders around them and evoke a sense of peace, good feelings…. refreshment.
I have been painting in my chosen medium, watercolor, for 30 years. Born and raised in Lake Charles, LA and a graduate of McNeese State University, I’m primarily self- taught in watercolor.
Knowing since childhood that I had a gift in art, I did not fully embrace it until mid-life. As a young adult, I began painting in watercolor for fun, learning the techniques of watercolor from local artist. It was only in the past 15 years, though, that I took a more serious approach to art and began an intense self-study of design principles and their application to my artwork. I have built my skill level to successfully be included in many juried exhibitions in Louisiana and Texas. In 2011 I was selected for the Lake Charles Mayor’s award for Artist of the Year.
Active in several art associations in the area, I also teach an adult class in watercolor.
